Bangladesh records 1837 fresh COVID cases, 21 more deaths

Dhaka/UNI: The death toll from Novel Coronavirus has reached 6,194, as 21 more people died from the disease in the past 24 hours.

Besides, 1,837 more tested positive for the lethal virus, raising the number of cases to 432,333, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a statement here on Saturday.

In the past 24 hours, 14,006 samples were examined, out of which, 1,837 tested positive for COVID-19.

Besides, 1,694 people recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 349,542, the statement added.

Bangladesh reported its first case of COVID-19 on March 8.

The contagion first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared Novel Coronavirus a global pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 1,319,380 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website, which compiles the number of new COVID cases and deaths from it.

According to the website, 54,407,408 people worldwide caught the virus. Out of these, 37,936,241 recovered, it said.
