Bangladesh records 46 COVID-19 deaths 3,489 test positive in past 24 hrs

Dhaka/UNI: The death toll from Coronavirus in Bangladesh has reached 2,197 with 46 more people succumbing to the contagion in the last 24 hours.

Besides, a total of 2,736 more recovered from the disease, raising the total number of recoveries to 80,838.

Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said this while presenting the daily health bulletin on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, 15,672 samples were examined and out of them 3,489 got positive results for the virus. The total coronavirus cases now stands at 172,134, she said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 547,002 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 11,965,938 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 6,913,793 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
