Washington, Apr 23 (Sputnik/UNI) The terror attacks that killed nearly 300 people at Christian churches across Colombo on Sunday were beyond the capability of local extremist groups to carry out on their own, Sri Lankan Minister for Economic Reforms Harsha De Silva said in an interview.

Sri Lanka's Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne said on Monday that the series of deadly explosions that took place across the country was organized by the local group National Thowheed Jamaath (NTJ) but that the attacks had also been carried out with help of a vast international network.

"It is questionable whether these people whom we have never heard of were able on their own to coordinate such a massive devastating attack," De Silva told CNN on Monday. "It seems these people are local. Questions are being raised whether they have any connection with other organizations outside… whether this is an isolated Sri Lanka-only incident or part of some multinational global effort."

On Easter Sunday, Sri Lanka’s Capital Colombo was hit by a series of coordinated bombings in churches and hotels that killed at least 290 people and left another 500 injured.
