Afghanistan : Nearly 60 militants killed in operations

Kabul, Jan 17 (IBNS): Nearly 60 militants have been killed during the separate operations of the Afghan Special Forces and Coalition Forces in various provinces of the country.

Local Khaama Press quoted military sources as saying that  the Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a clearance operation in Qal’ah-e Now district of Badghis province killing 39 Taliban fighters and destroying 30 IEDs.

The sources further added that Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a patrol in Maiwand district of Kandahar to destroy Taliban weapons caches.

“In self defense, a coalition air strike killed 10 Taliban fighters,” the sources said adding that two coalition air strikes killed 5 Taliban fighters in Tarin Kot district of Uruzgan.

The Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a raid in Tagab of Kapisa district killing 1 Taliban fighter while another Taliban militant was killed din Nerkh district of Wardak province.

The Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a clearance operation in Nesh district of Kandahar killing 2 Taliban fighters and destroying a large amount of home-made explosives, the sources said adding that Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a raid on a suspected Taliban prison in Ghazni to rescue Afghan security force prisoners. The Afghan soldiers had already been moved but the search will continue.
