My victory is of the downtrodden masses of Pakistan: New President Alvi says

Islamabad, Sept 5 (IBNS): Newly elected President of Pakistan  Dr Arif Alvi  has termed his win in the polls as the victory of the 'downtrodden masses of Pakistan'.

He tweeted: "I am grateful to Allah for all that he has bestowed upon me.This is not my victory alone but that of the downtrodden masses of Pakistan.I thank @ImranKhanPTI as because of him we are on the brink of fulfilling our destiny. I also thank all who have congratulated me on my election."

Thanking people for their good wishes, the President said: "It is difficult even to read 1000s of messages that have poured in. But will read every one of them as they r an expression of hope as well. I continue to thank you & assure you that all my colleagues in the govt of PM @ImranKhanPTI will work to fulfil your dream of NayaPakistan."

Alvi was elected on Tuesday as the 13th President of trhe country.

Arif Alvi received 353 electoral votes, Fazlur Rehman 185 and Aitzaz Ahsan 124 votes, the ECP said in a statement, as per a Geo News report.

He is expected to take oath on Sept 9.
