Islamabad, Jan 3 (IBNS): Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should take up a strategy that will stop the Islamic country’s dependence on US aid.

This comes after US President Donald Trump on Monday gave a strong message to Pakistan when he said his nation 'foolishly' gave more than 33 billion dollars in aid for the past 15 years but the south Asian nation only provided safe heavens to terrorists.

He had said Pakistan only gave 'lies and deceit' to the US in return to the aid.

"The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies & deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools. They give safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, with little help. No more," Trump had tweeted.

Speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, Nawaz said that Donald Trump’s tweet was “sad” and “non-serious."

He said Pakistan had paid the highest price after 9/11.
