Japan: Authorities remove mysterious metal ball which washed up on beach in Hamamatsu
A metal sphere, which had washed up on a beach in Japan and left locals perplexed, has been removed, media reports said on Friday.
Local officials in Hamamatsu told BBC that it will be stored "for a certain period of time" then "disposed of".
Interest in the object - dubbed "Godzilla egg", "mooring buoy" and "from outer space" - started earlier this week after a local alerted police upon noticing the unusual object on the shore, the British media reported.
The Japanese police and even the bomb squad officials reached the spot earlier.
The entire area was cordoned off and X-ray exams of the ball were conducted by officials.
"I think everyone in Hamamatsu City was worried and curious about what it was about, but I'm relieved that the work is over," a local official told Japanese media as quoted by BBC.
