Mokpo, May 15 (IBNS): Nearly a month after a ferry sank in South Korea, country's prosecutors on Thursday brought murder charges against the captain and three crew members of the ferry for abandoning the vehicle and attempting to evacuate passengers travelling in it.

"The 68-year-old captain, Lee Joon-seok, the chief engineer and the chief and second mates of the ferry Sewol are accused of leaving the ship as it was sinking while telling passengers, mostly high school students on a school excursion, to stay where they were inside the cabins," South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

The sailors were among the first to be rescued by rescuers following the mishap last month.

The sailors could face life imprisonment if they are convicted.

Meanwhile, rescuers could not find any more body as they resumed their search operation on Thursday.

As many as 281 people were killed in the ferry disaster while 172 passengers were rescued by rescuers.
