Rapid Trident 2021 military exercise kicks off in Ukraine

Kyiv/UNI/Xinhua/IBNS: Multinational military exercise Rapid Trident 2021 kicked off in the Lviv region in western Ukraine on Monday, the press service of the Ukrainian army's land forces reported.

The second-largest European nation's manoveure comes at a time when Russia and Belarus are steadfastly engaged in their own military drill.

Rapid Trident 21 is the final training phase of the annual training exercise meant to prepare the Ukrainian Land Force units for future obstacles and enhance interoperability among allied partner countries.

The manoeuvre is assisted by the U.S. Army, Europe and Africa.

More than 6,000 military personnel from 15 countries will take part in the exercise between September 20 and October 1 at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center near Yavoriv in the Lviv region.

The exercise involves a 25-year-old partnership between the U.S. forces and Ukraine.

The Rapid Trident exercise has been held in Ukraine since 2006 within the framework of NATO's Partnership for Peace program. Last year over 4,000 troops from nine participating countries took part in the drills.
