Riyadh/UNI: The owners of 186 private schools have agreed to cut their fees by half in the first semester of the new academic year. the Saudi news agency SPA reported

According to an education official, Tabuk's schools located in the northern region of Saudi Arabia would benefit 30,000 students and save a total of 90 million Saudi riyals for their parents.

The move comes in response to an initiative launched by the Tabuk education directorate to help reduce the economic impact of global novel Coronaviruses.

"This initiative strengthens the national duty of private and international schools owners as well as compassionate people towards the country," said Ibrahim Al Omari, director general of Tabuk Education Directorate.

Earlier this week, Saudi's Education Minister Hamad Al-Sheikh said that the first seven weeks of the new school year, starting August 30, on distance education programs as part of the state's efforts to prevent the spread of new Coronoviruses will depend.
