More trouble for KP Oli as Nepal Opposition protests against 'discriminatory' Citizenship Bill

Kathmandu/IBNS: In more trouble for Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli who was singing in the tunes of China days ago to target India, the Opposition in Nepal took to streets to protest against the new Citizenship Bill allegedly targeting the minority groups of the country.

The Janata Samajbadi Party (JSB) has alleged the bill targets LGBTQ+, foreign women who get married to Nepalese men and the ex-Gurkhas who seek Nepalese citizenship.

As per the new bill, any foreign woman will have to stay in probation for seven years to get Nepalese citizenship after getting married to a man from the country.

LGBTQ community members, as per the bill, will have to get examined before getting citizenship. The norm is, however, not applicable for men and women.

Oli on Tuesday received backlash from top leaders of the ruling Nepal Communist Party for unjustifiably blaming India to topple his government.

Members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party now want PM Oli to step down from his post, media reports said.

Creating more controversy, the House of Representatives of Nepal this month passed the Constitutional Amendment Bill revising the Coat of Arms of Nepal which has unilaterally included a stretch of land in the mountains that India claims as its own.

The new map of Nepal includes a portion of land on the east of river Kali, which extends out from the northwestern tip of Nepal.
