London/Toronto: British PM Boris Johnson on Tuesday wished Canadian PM Justin Trudeau for winning the general election for another term.

Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party just managed to clinch the election which witnessed a close fight between the contesting political parties.

However, Justin Trudeau will now be the prime minister of a minority government.

The official Twitter page of the UK PM said: "Congratulations
@JustinTrudeau on your re-election. As Commonwealth, NATO, and Five Eyes partners the UK and Canada share history and values and I look forward to continuing to work with you on priorities such as girls’ education and climate change."

The main battle in Canada was between Trudeau and Conservative leader Andrew Scheer.

Following the win, Trudeau tweeted, "Thank you, Canada, for putting your trust in our team and for having faith in us to move this country in the right direction. Regardless of how you cast your vote, our team will work hard for all Canadians."

Health care, climate crisis and cost of living were the main issues in the elections, reports said.

The Liberal Party of Canada has won in 158 districts in the national election, with at least 170 having been required for a majority government, preliminary data from the Commissioner of Canada Elections shows.

With preliminary polling data from all 338 electoral districts processed, the Liberal Party has 33.6 per cent of the votes, while the Conservative Party of Canada has 34.1 per cent.

The Conservative Party has secured victory in 119 districts.
