Cairo, April 17 (Xinhua/UNI): An Egyptian court on Tuesday sentenced two defendants to death over a church attack that left nine Christians and a policeman killed in 2017, official news agency MENA reported.

Cairo Criminal Court has referred the defendants to the country's Grand Mufti, the highest religious official, whose non-binding opinion is required by Egyptian law.
The defendants were accused of forming, operating, joining and financing a terrorist group, as well as murder.

The charges listed by the prosecution also included resisting police by force and violence, and manufacturing and possessing an explosive device to be used to endanger people's lives.

In the last several years, Coptic churches have seen several deadly terrorist attacks, which left tens dead and injured.
