Taipei, Apr 14 (UNI) American online social media and social networking service company Facebook opened its new headquarter in Taipei's Xinyi district on Thursday.

The new office was opened on the 35th floor of Nan Shan Plaza the second tallest skyscraper in Taipei which covers an area of 804 ping (a ping equals 3.3 square meters) and has a capacity for 80 seats.

A large proportion of the new office is allocated as recreational space for employees, including an area with free beverages and snacks, library, game room, and lounge.

Yu I-hui, general manager of the Hong Kong and Taiwan, said that like Facebook's offices around the world, the firm's new office in Taiwan has adopted an open layout in the hope of stimulating more creativity.

The game area includes a mahjong table, foosball table, mini KTV booth, claw machine game, and massive sofa complete with pillows shaped like Facebook emojis, Taiwan news reported.

Facebook's new digs also include a live studio that allows employees to broadcast or record live videos, as well as a virtual device that allows employees to experience virtual reality (VR) while working.

Decoration in the office includes artworks by three local artists including Lu Jyun-han , Jam Wu , and DEBE.

The move from its previous location in a law firm in the Taipei World Trade Center next to Taipei 101 likely cost a pretty penny, as the estimated monthly rental cost for office space in Nan Shan Plaza is NT$4,000 (US$129) per ping. As the office covers an area of 804 ping, a conservative estimate for the rent would be around NT$3.2 million per month.
