The India–Thailand MICE Corridor: Why the next decade belongs to business events, conferences and experiential travel

| @indiablooms | Jun 13, 2026, at 05:12 pm

The global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) industry is entering one of the most exciting growth phases in its history.

Across Asia, two destinations are emerging as clear winners in the race to become regional business event powerhouses — India and Thailand.

Together, these two markets represent a compelling story of infrastructure development, government support, international business confidence, tourism growth, and economic transformation.

As someone actively involved in corporate events, exhibitions, destination conferences, incentive travel programs, and international business gatherings across both countries, I believe we are witnessing the emergence of a powerful India–Thailand MICE corridor that will reshape business tourism in Asia over the next decade.

The Numbers Tell A Powerful Story

India's MICE market generated approximately USD 49.4 billion in 2024 and is projected to exceed USD 103.6 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 13.2%. This makes India one of the fastest-growing MICE destinations globally.

At the same time, Thailand is aggressively positioning itself as Southeast Asia's leading innovation-driven business events destination.

Through strategic initiatives led by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) and the Thailand Exhibition Association (TEA), the country is investing heavily in convention infrastructure, sustainability programs, digital transformation, and global event acquisition.

What makes this particularly interesting is that both countries are approaching growth from different but complementary perspectives.

India is building scale. Thailand is building specialization.

Together, they create enormous opportunities for corporations, associations, event planners, exhibition organizers, and international delegates.

India's MICE Industry Is Becoming A Major Economic Engine

For many years, India's MICE sector was viewed as an extension of tourism.

Today, it is becoming a critical contributor to economic development.

Government initiatives such as the 'Meet in India' campaign, investment in convention infrastructure, international destination marketing, and the development of world-class venues like Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi have significantly strengthened India's global positioning.

More importantly, the industry is creating a massive employment ecosystem.

Every conference, exhibition, trade show, corporate event, and incentive program supports event planners, hospitality professionals, exhibition contractors, logistics providers, travel companies, production teams, technology providers, registration agencies, artist management firms, and event manpower companies.

The sector's projected growth beyond USD 100 billion by 2030 represents not only revenue generation but also large-scale job creation across multiple industries.

Thailand Is Building A Future-Ready MICE Ecosystem

While India focuses on scale, Thailand is focusing on quality, innovation, and global competitiveness.

The recently announced Thailand Exhibition Association MICE Master Plan 2026–2027 outlines a clear roadmap centered on innovation, sustainability, digital transformation, international collaboration, and talent development.

Speaking about the initiative, TEA President Loy Joon How emphasized the role of Thailand MICE X-Change (TMX) as a platform for driving innovation, sustainability, business networking, and knowledge exchange across the industry.

TMX 2026 is expected to attract more than 4,000 global industry leaders and over 100 event solution providers.

Thailand's vision is clear.

The country wants to move beyond being a destination known for hospitality and become a regional hub for business innovation, exhibitions, international conferences, and high-value corporate events.

Bangkok, Delhi and Mumbai: The New Business Event Capitals

The future of MICE growth will be driven by cities.

In India, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and emerging cities such as Jaipur, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, and Indore are attracting increasing numbers of conferences, exhibitions, and corporate gatherings.

In Thailand, Bangkok remains the country's MICE powerhouse, supported by the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, IMPACT Exhibition Centre, luxury hospitality infrastructure, and strong international connectivity.

Meanwhile, Pattaya, Phuket, and Chiang Mai are rapidly emerging as preferred destinations for:

  • Corporate Events
  • Incentive Travel Programs
  • International Conferences
  • Leadership Retreats
  • Dealer Meets
  • Destination Business Summits
  • Industry Exhibitions

The rise of these cities reflects a broader trend: companies are seeking destinations that combine business objectives with memorable experiences.

Why Incentive Travel Is Becoming The Fastest Growing Segment

One of the most exciting developments in both India and Thailand is the growth of incentive travel.

Companies increasingly recognize that employee engagement, channel partner motivation, and leadership development require more than traditional meetings.

They require experience.

This is creating demand for:

  • Corporate Tour Organisers
  • Incentive Travel Specialists
  • Destination Event Management Companies
  • International Conference Organisers
  • Corporate Event Planners
  • Exhibition Management Companies

Thailand continues to dominate the incentive travel segment due to its hospitality, connectivity, luxury offerings, and cost efficiency, while India is seeing strong growth through destination events in Goa, Rajasthan, Kerala, Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Northeast India.

The Future Belongs To Experience-Driven Events

The MICE industry is evolving rapidly.

Today's clients are not looking for basic conferences.

They are demanding:

 AI-enabled event experiences
 Sustainable event solutions
 Data-driven attendee engagement
 Hybrid event capabilities
 Immersive networking opportunities
 Destination-led business events
 Experiential incentive programs

This shift is creating opportunities for event companies that can combine strategy, creativity, technology, logistics, hospitality, and international execution capabilities.

The future will belong to organizations that can deliver business outcomes while creating memorable experiences.

The India–Thailand Opportunity

For Indian companies, Thailand offers one of the strongest international destinations for incentive travel, conferences, exhibitions, and leadership events.

For Thailand, India represents one of the world's fastest-growing outbound MICE markets.

The relationship is naturally complementary.

As air connectivity improves, corporate travel expands, and governments continue investing in business event infrastructure, the India–Thailand MICE corridor is likely to become one of Asia's most important growth stories.

Nikhil Kapoor's Perspective On The Future

Having worked across corporate events, destination experiences, exhibitions, conferences, government projects, and international business gatherings, I believe the MICE industry is no longer simply an event sector.

It is an economic development engine.

It creates jobs.

It drives tourism.

It attracts investments.

It builds business relationships.

And it creates opportunities for entire ecosystems of professionals and businesses.

The next five years will see unprecedented growth in international conferences, incentive travel, trade exhibitions, corporate meetings, and destination business events across both India and Thailand.

Organizations that invest today in innovation, sustainability, technology, and experience design will be the ones leading tomorrow.
