Air India boosts Canada operations with new Mumbai–Toronto flights, deploys B787-9 on Delhi route
Air India has introduced its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the Delhi–Toronto route and announced a major expansion of its Canada operations for the Winter 2026-27 season, including a new non-stop Mumbai–Toronto service, additional capacity and upgraded aircraft on Toronto flights.
The airline said the deployment of the Boeing 787-9 brings its latest cabin interiors and onboard product to Canada for the first time. Along with the expanded schedule, Air India plans to increase overall capacity between India and Canada by 4,400 seats per month, while premium seat capacity on Toronto services will rise by 71%.
New Mumbai-Toronto flights from October
Air India will begin a seasonal non-stop service between Mumbai and Toronto from 25 October 2026 to 26 March 2027. The route will operate three times a week, adding nearly 2,000 seats each week between India and Canada. Air India will be the only airline offering direct flights between the two cities.
The service will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER featuring upgraded cabin interiors, including eight First Class suites with sliding privacy doors, 40 flat-bed Business Class seats and 280 Economy Class seats. The aircraft will also offer onboard Wi-Fi connectivity.
Passengers travelling between Mumbai and Toronto will be able to connect through Air India's hubs in Mumbai and Delhi to destinations including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ludhiana and Vadodara, among several other Indian cities.

At the same time, we are also progressively introducing our newest aircraft and the latest onboard products to North America, reflecting our intent to put our best foot forward in one of the world's most competitive long-haul markets.”
Toronto routes to receive upgraded aircraft
During the Winter 2026-27 season, Air India will operate 10 weekly flights between Delhi and Toronto. Seven of these flights will be served by the new Boeing 787-9 aircraft, while the remaining three weekly services will initially operate with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft before switching to the Boeing 787-9 from January 2027 as additional aircraft join the fleet.
From January 2027, every Air India flight to and from Toronto will operate with either new Boeing 787-9 aircraft or significantly upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, giving passengers access to the airline's latest cabin interiors across all Toronto services.
The introduction of the new aircraft on the Delhi and Mumbai routes will increase premium seating on Toronto flights by 71% this winter, with more First Class, Business Class and Premium Economy seats available.
Flights are now available for booking through Air India's website, mobile app, customer contact centre and travel agents worldwide.
During the Winter 2026-27 schedule, Air India will operate 20 weekly flights between India and Canada, comprising 10 weekly services from Delhi to Toronto, three weekly flights from Mumbai to Toronto and seven weekly flights from Delhi to Vancouver.
