New Delhi/IBNS: Air India has issued a clarification regarding a media report which had claimed 48 pilots of the national airline of India have received termination letters.

A report by The Hindu had said 48 pilots were served termination letters, weeks after the airline had claimed no employees would be sacked.

Issuing a clarification, Air India said 57 pilots had resigned citing financial constraints.

No layoffs, rationalization of allowances implemented, says Air India amid Covid-19 crisis

Air India's statement said, "The fact of the matter is that these pilots (57 in number), seeking green pastures, had resigned from the services of Air India citing financial constraints. The pilots include permanent and contractual ones.

"Some of the pilots later on had withdrawn their resignations. Air India no longer requires the services of these pilots and has now accepted their resignations.

"Moreover some of the pilots (14) have filed Writ Petitions before Delhi High Court seeking a direction to Air India to accept the withdrawal of their resignations. The matter is subjudice."
