Bastar on high alert after intelligence inputs warn of major Maoist attack
Bastar: A high alert has been sounded in Left-wing extremism-affected Bastar division following key intelligence inputs from security agencies, which revealed that Chhattisgarh tops a list of five states where Maoists are planning a massive assault as part of a tactical counter-offensive underway from March and likely to last till June.
On April 26, 2022, senior officials of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (UMHA) have warned the Police about possible Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) activities in West Bengal, along with its neighbouring States of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. During a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Eastern Zonal Council that took place at the West Bengal State secretariat of Nabanna under the Shibpur Police Station limits of Howrah District, West Bengal, on April 26, an alert was issued by senior officials of the UMHA that the following 15 days would be extremely crucial for these four States, as there were central intelligence inputs of resurgent Maoist activities in the region.

Maoists blast mobile towers in Giridih of Jharkhand
Giridih/UNI: Ultras belonging to the proscribed CPI Maoists have blasted mobile towers at separate locations under Madhuban and Pirtand Police station area in Giridih district of Jharkhand.
On September 23, 2021, at least 14 jan militia (people's militia) members of the Cherla [Bhadradri Kothagudem] ‘area committee’ of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrendered before the Security Forces (SFs) in the Bhadradri Kothagudem District. According to the Police, the 14 jan militia members, who were forced to join the outfit, decided to quit they were unable to bear the harassment by leaders, who forced them do things against their will. Recently, they were forced to attend a training programme in the Pesarlapadu, Puttapadu and Chanda areas in Chhattisgarh.
The Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), facing losses across India, is trying to rebuild its cadre strength. With voluntary recruitment drying up, the group has started focusing increasingly on forced recruitment of children.

Madhya Pradesh: Creeping Consolidation
On June 29, 2021, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres abducted and killed a villager, identified as Bhagchand Adme (45), a resident of Bamhani village under the Bithali Police outpost, situated near the Kanha National Park, in Balaghat District. A hand-written pamphlet was found near his body, claiming that Bhagchand was an ‘informer’ and was therefore ‘sentenced to death.’ Balaghat, Superintendent of Police (SP), Abhishek Tiwari, disclosed that cadres of the Malanjkhand ‘area committee’ were suspected to be behind Adme’s killing.
On June 15, 2021, Security Forces (SFs) recovered explosives, including Improvised Explosive Device (IED) making materials, and a huge cache of arms, following an exchange of fire with Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres at a forest near Kulabeda village in Malkangiri District in Odisha. No casualty was reported.
Chhattisgarh: Soldier kidnapped by Maoists after deadly encounter released
Raipur/IBNS: A commando, who was kidnapped by Maoists after a deadly encounter in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, has been released, media reports said.
On January 30, 2021, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed two civilians in the Belghar area of Kandhamal District. In a handwritten note found near the bodies of the slain villagers, the Maoists of the ‘Bansadhara-Ghumusar-Nagabali (BGN) Division’ claimed that the two were among those who had tipped off the Security Forces (SFs) about the presence of rebels in the Belghar area, which had resulted in the September 9, 2020, encounter in which five Maoists were killed. The Maoists warned other ‘informers’ to surrender before their ‘Jan Adalat’ (People’s/ Kangaroo Court organized by the Maoists) within 15 days or else, they would be sentenced to death. They also warned that the State Government, Director General of Police (DGP) Abhay, and Inspector General of Police (IGP), Intelligence, R.K. Sharma. would be held responsible for the loss of lives.
On December 29, 2020, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres killed a civilian near Tumdikasa village under Manpur Police Station limits in Rajnandgaon District. The Maoists left a pamphlet near his body, which accused the victim of being a ‘Police informer’.
Jharkhand: PLFI's Fading Footprints
On December 22, 2020, an ‘area commander’ of the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a splinter group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), identified as Punai Oran, was killed in an exchange of fire with the Security Forces (SFs) at Chete village near Lodhma under Nagri Police Station limits in Ranchi District. Punai, carrying a reward of INR 200,000 on his head, was active in Ranchi, Gumla and Khunti, and had about 14 cases pending against him in Ranchi and other Districts. PLFI ‘chief’ Dinesh Gope had reportedly given one AK-47 rifle to Oraon, who used to extort money from businessmen and estate traders.

On December 4, 2020, a Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadre was killed in an exchange of fire with the Security Forces (SFs) in a forested area near Hakwa village under Gangaloor Police Station limits in Bijapur District, Chhattisgarh. The body of the Maoist, identified as Arjun, a ‘platoon commander’ of the Gangaloor ‘area committee’ of the Maoists, was recovered along with a firearm and explosives.
