Yuvraj Singh says Ravichandran Ashwin doesn't deserve a place in India's ODI, T20I teams

Former Indian star cricketer Yuvraj Singh has said allrounder Ravichandran Ashwin doesn't deserve a place in the national side for the One Day Internationals and T20Is.

Yuvraj told The Times of India, "Ashwin is a great bowler but I don’t think he deserves a place in ODIs and T20s. He is very good with the ball, but what does he bring with the bat? Or as a fielder?

"In the Test team, yes, he should be there. But in white-ball cricket, I don’t think he deserves a place."

Though Hardik is perceived as the India captain in the long term, his injury prompted Rohit Sharma to return as the skipper in the shortest format of the sport.

Yuvraj thinks the cricket board should nurture cricketers like Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill as future captains since Hardik, a star allrounder, is injury-prone.

The southpaw, who was instrumental in India's 2011 World Cup win, told the daily, "Hardik is a very important member of the team and India need him. He is injury prone and we need to give him time to recuperate and settle down.

"We have to get the best out of him. As for captaincy, we need to have more options. There is Suryakumar Yadav, who has been captaining India in T20Is. There is Shubman Gill, who will be captain in IPL."

Hardik, who is the regular vice-captain, is out of the national side since he suffered an injury in a ODI World Cup group match against Bangladesh last year.
