Upcoming India-Bangladesh series 'cancelled' amid diplomatic tension: Reports
Fans are expected to wait a bit longer for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to return to action this year since the limited-overs series against Bangladesh seems to be cancelled or postponed over the diplomatic tension between the neighbouring nations in recent years.
The tour was scheduled to be held between August 17 to 31.
India was scheduled to travel across the border to play three ODIs and a T20 series.
While no official announcement has been made, preparations for the short white-ball series scheduled for next month have been put on ice by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), reported Cricbuzz.
The first sign of the tour cancellation or even postponement became evident when the BCB paused the sale of its media rights.
"We will continue, we will take time to research the market. There is no point in rushing things. We can give different contracts," a BCB official told Cricbuzz in Dhaka.
An Indian broadcaster said they have been informed that the series between India and Bangladesh will not be played.
An Indian broadcaster told the website: "They have informed us that there is no India series. After announcing the tender, they did not provide the ITT. They are selling, for now, only for the Pakistan series."
The BCB official further said: "The date for the India series hasn't been fixed yet. They (the BCCI) said it's difficult for them to come in August. This is part of FTP."
The relationship between India and Bangladesh deteriorated ever since interim government chief Muhammad Yunus came to power following the ouster of former PM Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024.
