Tokyo/IBNS: Boxing legend MC Mary Kom started her campaign Sunday with a win against Dominican Republic's Miguelina Hernandez Garcia to advance to the last 16 in Women's Flyweight.

With this victory in the round of 32, the 2012 London Games bronze winner advanced to pre-quarters.

Mary Kom was in control in all three rounds to win a 4:1 split decision win at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena.

The pugilist seemed to move cautiously in the beginning but took an aggressive approach making Miguelina lose her guard.

Throughout the bout, Mary Kom's punches were more accurate; her attack more calculated but on target all the time.

In the final round both were seen increasing their intensity and exchanged multiple punches.

Mary Kom used her nimble footwork to defend Miguelina's attack in the last seconds.

Mary Kom will now face Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in the round of 16 on Thursday.
