Travis Head continued to torment Rohit Sharma and his men in all formats of the game as he hit a heroic 152 runs knock and Steve Smith contributed 101 runs against India to help Australia put up a strong 405 runs for the loss of seven wickets at the end of the second day's play on Sunday.

Jasprit Bumrah scalped five wickets but the rest of the battling lineup struggled and could not cause any damage to the opponent side that bounced back from the second Test.

Head punished the Indian attack and hit 18 boundaries in the 160-ball knock.

Smith sent 12 balls outside the park.

They contributed 241 runs partnership to recover Australia from a struggling position of 75/3.

India commenced day's proceedings strongly by dismissing Usman Khawaja (21) and Nathan McSweeny (9) early.

Nitish Kumar Reddy removed Marnus Labuschagne (12) to leave the opponent squad struggling.

However, Head and Smith counterattacked and took the hosts to a much more dominating position at the end of the day.

Reddy and Mohammed Siraj picked up a wicket each but Akash Deep and Ravindra Jadeja could not make a mark.

Wicket-keeper Alex Carey added to India's pain by playing a surprising knock of unbeaten 45 runs off 47 balls. Pacer Mitchell Starc also provided valuable support with an unbeaten 7.
