Spinners could have done better: Dhoni

Perth, Jan 12 (IBNS): After being defeated in the first ODI against Australia here, Indian skipper MS Dhoni said he felt that the spinners could have performed better in the match.

" I feel the spinners could have done better," Dhoni said while speaking at a press conference after the match.

Dhoni said a target of 310 as set by his batsmen was a good score for defending against Australia.

"310 was a good score. They batted really better. I feel that the bowlers could have bowled a bit better to put pressure on them," he said.

Spinner R Ashwin gave away 68 runs in his 9 overs and took two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja went for 61 runs in the nine over he bowled.

Steve Smith shined with the bat as he scored 149 runs to help Australia beat India by five wickets in the first ODI here on Tuesday.

Chasing 310 for victory, Australia reached the winning total by losing five wickets with four balls to spare.

Smith top scored with his heroic 149 runs off  135 balls, hitting 11 boundaries and two sixes in his knock.
