Barcelona: Spain captain and World Cup winning hero Sergio Busquets has announced his retirement from international football, ending an era in the glorious sporting history of the country.

He was part of the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championship team.

In 2022, he captained the Spanish side.

However, the team could not cross the Super-16 stage of the showpiece tournament.

He made his Spain debut on 1 April, 2009 in a World Cup qualifier against Turkey and went on to feature at four World Cups and three European Championships, BBC reported.

He was the part of the famed Spanish mid-field of 2010 team which consisted of Andres Iniesta and Xavi.
