Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill to succeed Rohit Sharma as ODI skipper in future, report shares Hitman's future 'exit' details
Indian Test skipper Shubman Gill is likely to succeed Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain of the national side in future, media reports said.
Sharma is currently leading the Indian squad in the 50-over format of the game, having retired from all other formats in the past couple of months.
His last outing for India was successfully winning the Champions Trophy in the UAE.
As per Revsportz website, Sharma might play his last limited-overs series as the skipper against Australia soon.
India will play the Cricket World Cup in 2027 with Rohit Sharma's age touching 40 during the showpiece event.
The current split-captaincy thing is mainly down to the ongoing transitional phase. Once it’s complete, and a new era begins, Gill is expected to be in charge of all three formats, Revsportz reported.
Gill was recently named as India's Vice Captain for the Asia Cup tournament to be played in T20 format, with Suryakumar Yadav returning to lead the national team.
India's upcoming major T20 outings will be the T20 World Cup in 2026 and the LA Olympics in 2028.
If media reports are believed, then Yadav will continue to lead the squad till the next edition of the T20 World Cup at least.
India won the last edition of the tournament under Sharma's captaincy.
