Setting goals for AFC Medical Conference

| | Jul 14, 2014, at 09:22 pm
New Delhi, July 14 (IBNS): Indian physiotherapist Shaunak Chakrabarti is looking forward to interacting and learning from world-renowned sports medicine experts during the AFC Medical Conference 2015 which New Delhi will host in April.

Chakrabarti, who has a passion for sports, is the first physiotherapist to have registered to participate in the fifth edition of the AFC’s prestigious medical conference set to take place in New Delhi from April 2 to 4.

Right after graduating from his master degree programme, he grabbed an opportunity to work as the team physiotherapist for East Bengal FC, one of the most successful clubs in Indian football, who took part in the AFC Cup in 2012.

“I am extremely happy about participating in the conference,” Chakrabarti told the-AFC.com. “I wanted to enrol myself at the earliest, hence proceeded with all the formalities soon to ensure I didn’t miss the chance to attend it. I found the registration procedure very user friendly and the response very prompt too.”

“I think the conference is a very innovative initiative and definitely the most needed thing in India because I believe we are still lagging behind in our awareness and seriousness of rehabilitation and a multidisciplinary treatment approach towards sportspersons.

“I am looking forward to some recent techniques of rehab procedures, training techniques and also new research that’s being conducted, and of course, getting to learn and interact with the experts would definitely be icing on the cake!”

The FIFA U-17 World Cup will take place in India in 2017 and Chakrabarti is confident that the South Asian nation’s first-ever hosting of an international football tournament will contribute to the development of football medicine and sports science in India.

“I think this development is going to open up many avenues for the sports scenario as a whole and specifically for the role of sports medicine and rehab,” he said.

“More so because I believe we would have to stick to international protocols and systems of treatment and documentation, etc, since this is an international event. So, I am sure we would be able to take a leap towards the recent developments and sports treatment.”

The 5th AFC Medical Conference New Delhi 2015 which will be attended by between 800 and 1,000 delegates from around the world was officially launched on April 26.

India will be the fourth country to host the prestigious conference after Malaysia (2011 and 2000), Oman (2005) and Japan (1995).

More information can be obtained from the medical conference landing page. Those interested to register can do so on the on-line registration form.
