Ravi Shastri questions Rahul Dravid's frequent breaks, says '2-3 months IPL enough'

| @indiablooms | Nov 17, 2022, at 11:47 pm

Former India cricket head coach Ravi Shastri has questioned the frequent breaks taken by his successor Rahul Dravid, who is giving a miss to the team's New Zealand tour.

Shastri, who has been a regular head coach for years without any major break, said via Prime Video, "I do not believe in breaks because I want to understand my team, I want to understand my players and I want to be in control of that team."

"These breaks... What do you need that many breaks for to be honest? You get your 2-3 months of the IPL, that's enough for you to rest as a coach. But other times, I think a coach should be hands on, whoever he is," he added.

Earlier this year, Dravid had taken breaks during India's tour of Zimbabwe and Ireland.

The regular head coach was also absent from the team when India played a home series against South Africa last month.

Dravid's role will be played by cricket VVS Laxman in India's tour to New Zealand beginning on Friday.

In absence of senior players, Hardik Pandya will lead India in three T20Is and as many One Day Internationals.
