Rangana Herath takes seven, Sri Lanka beat India to win Galle Test

Galle, Aug 15 (IBNS) Rangana Herath took seven wickets as Sri Lanka came from behind and defeated India by 63 runs in the first Test here on Saturday.

Herath destroyed the Indian batting lineup with his lethal bowling as the visitors were bowled out for 112 runs.

Chasing 176, India resumed from overnight score of 23 for 1, but Virat Kohli's men kept losing wickets at regular intervals to make situation difficult for themselves.

Ajinkya Rahane tried to showed some fight by scoring 36 but the remaining batsmen surrendered helplessly.

Herath showed the brilliance of his arm by picking up seven wickets by giving away 48 runs.

Tharindu Kaushal gave him good company and took three wickets to finish the deal.

Earlier,Dinesh Chandimal smashed brilliant 162 not out which helped Sri Lanka take a second innings lead of 175 runs.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 183 runs in their first innings while India scored 375 runs in their first innings with Shikhar Dhawan top scoring with his 134.

Sri Lanka took 1-0 lead in the series.
