PCB suspends Director Usman Wahla over Asia Cup handshake row post India-Pak match

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has suspended its Director of International Cricket, Usman Wahla, following the Asia Cup 2025 handshake controversy during the India–Pakistan clash.

According to ASports, Wahla was removed for failing to lodge a timely formal complaint against match referee Andy Pycroft, who allegedly instructed Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha not to shake hands with India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav after the match.

The PCB formally complained to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Monday, demanding Pycroft’s immediate removal for violating the ICC Code of Conduct and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Laws, citing a breach of the Spirit of Cricket.

PCB chairman , in a post on X, confirmed that the complaint had also been escalated to the ICC, stressing that Pycroft’s conduct “violated both the ICC Code of Conduct and MCC Laws.”

The controversy arose after India chased down Pakistan’s modest 128-run target, with Suryakumar Yadav finishing the game in style.

Post-match, the Indian captain headed directly to the dressing room with partner Shivam Dube, and the customary handshake between rival teams did not take place.

Tensions were already heightened due to strained Indo-Pak relations following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, which killed 26 tourists.
