Pakistani skipper Babar Azam apologises for failing to reach Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup

Pakistani skipper Babar Azam has apologised to his fans for failing to reach the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup.

He blamed the poor performance of the batsmen for the dismal show of the team in the event.

“Thank you so much for supporting us, and sorry for that performance,” Babar was quoted as saying by Dawn News after the match in Florida.

Blaming batsmen, he said: “The pitches here helped the fast bowlers a little but I think overall our batting did not click."

Pakistan finished third in Group A after a nervous win against Ireland on Sunday.

The 2009 champions were shocked when they were defeated by the USA and India in the group stage match of the 20-over cricket event, hosted jointly by the US and West Indies.

India and the USA have reached the next stage of the tournament.

Babar resigned as skipper of the team from all formats of the game after his team's poor show in the 50-over World Cup last year.

He was reinstated as white-ball skipper ahead of the T20 World Cup.
