India's hope of winning another Olympic medal suffered a jolt after star boxer Lovlina Borgohain lost her women's 75kg quarter-final bout on Sunday.

She was defeated by Li Qian of China.

She was knocked out of the showpiece event after the defeat.

Despite a close fight against the Chinese opponent, the Tokyo Olympic medalist bowed out of the match after she lost the contest by a 4-1 spilt verdict.

Her defeat means the Indian boxing contingent will return home this time without a medal.
