Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh's heroics in vain as KKR fall short of SRH's mammoth total

Kolkata/IBNS: Despite the heroics by skipper Nitish Rana and new batting sensation Rinku Singh, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were defeated by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 23 runs in the 19th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Eden Gardens here on Friday.

Chasing a mammoth target of 229, Rana (75 off 41 balls) and Rinku (58 not out off 31 balls) kept KKR in the hunt but quality bowling by SRH towards the end denied the hosts their third consecutive victory.

KKR ended at 205/7 in 20 overs.

Earlier, SRH slammed 228/4 in 20 overs courtesy Harry Brook's 55-ball unbeaten 100.

Brook was backed by Aiden Markram (50 off 26 balls), Abhishek Sharma (32 off 17 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (16 off six balls).
