MI beat CSK, clinch IPL for 2nd time

Kolkata, May 24 (IBNS): Mumbai Indians thrashed Chennai Super Kings by 41 runs in an one-sided IPL match to lift the title for the second time here on Sunday.

In front of a huge crowd at the iconic Eden Gardens, where spectators were seen sharing their support for both sides, Mumbai posted a crucial 202 runs for the loss of five wickets and then restricted CSK at 161 for eight.

CSK batsmen lost their track to chase down a massive total in the first six overs of their innings as they never gained the momentum to reach the target

Dwayne Smith remained slow in his approach and scored 57 runs off 48 balls, hitting nine boundaries and a six in his knock.

Smith remained the top scorer for the side while the rest of the batsmen failed to contribute with their willows in this crucial clash.

Suresh Raina contribute 28 runs with his willow for the side that was targeting to bag their second IPL title.

Mitchell McClenaghan scalped three wickets while

Lasith Malinga,  and Harbhajan Singh took two wickets each for Mumbai.

Earlier, riding on Lendl Simmons (68), Rohit Sharma (50), Kieron Pollard (36) and Ambati Rayudu  (36*), Mumbai posted 202 on the scorecard.

Simmons an Sharma added 119 runs in the second wicket partnership.

Pollard and Rayudu were ruthless in their 71 runs fourth wicket partnership where they destroyed the opponents batting.

Mumbai Indians repeated their 2013 performance as they lifted the trophy for the second time by beating the same opponent side at the Eden Gardens, despite losing few matches initially in the 2015 edition of the cash-rich tournament.

Dwayne Bravo took two wickets for CSK.

Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders and CSK have lifted the trophy two times each.

Rohit Sharma had won the title in 2013under Rohit Sharma's leadership.
