Marvan Atapattu resigns as Sri Lanka head coach

Colombo, Sept 3 (IBNS) Marvan Atapattu on Thursday resigned from the post of Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team, officials said.

"We would like to inform you of the resignation of Mr. Marvan Atapattu from the post of Head Coach of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team which has been accepted by Sri Lanka Cricket," the Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.

Atapattu was appointed to this position in October 2014, previously serving as the Batting Coach to the team from 2011 and as Interim Head Coach for a brief period from April 2014 after Paul Farbrace resigned.

Sri Lanka lost the Test series against India this week by 1-2 margin.
