Kolkata duo make history! Sagnik Roy and Sayantan Kushari win India’s first-ever gold at World Bridge Championship in China
Hefei/Kolkata/IBNS: City based Sagnik Roy and Sayantan Kushari made India proud bagging the gold in the Under 31 pairs final of 9th World Youth Transnational Bridge Championship held at Hefei, China on Saturday, according to Bridge Federation of India secretary Debasish Ray.
This is the first time that India earned a gold medal in any World Bridge Championship event.
After a grueling and tough competition, the Indian pair emerged champion scoring 377.67 Match Points (MPs).
Croatia took the second spot with 357.78 MPs while China finished third scoring 335.92 MPs.
Sagnik and Sayantan, who honed their skill in the mind game while they were at the CBC Bridge Academy here, have represented the country several times in the past.
They had even made podium finishes during the 2022 and 2024 world junior championships but gold remained elusive both the times then.
Commenting on their fine success, Debasish Ray said, "It is a matter of great pride that Sagnik and Sayantan became the first Indians to win the coveted gold in the world bridge Championship. I hope they will earn more laurels for the country in future."
