Keeper Bono helps Morocco oust Spain on penalties in World Cup

Doha/UNI: Morocco roared into the Qatar World Cup quarterfinals after knocking Spain out 3-0 on penalties here on Wednesday.

After a goalless draw in the regular and extra times, goalkeeper Bono saved Spain's first three spot kicks from Pablo Sarabia, Carlos Soler and Sergio Busquets to allow Achraf Hakimi to put Morocco through by chipping his penalty down the middle.

The regular time witnessed a game of cat and mouse as Spain tried and failed to break down a compact Morocco midfield and defense, with hardly any chances until the closing minutes when Nico Williams and Alvaro Morata added some bites to the Spain attack.

Dani Olmo twice tested Bono with his best effort coming in the dying moments, but it was no surprise when the game went to extra time and although Spain pressed for a winning goal, Morocco clung on and then took the glory.
