Junior Tennis players from 17 countries to compete at ITF J200 Championship in Kolkata
Kolkata/IBNS: Top junior tennis players from 17 countries will vie for top honours at the DKS-ITF J200 World Ranking Junior Tennis Championship, scheduled to be held on the red clay courts of Dakshin Kolikata Sangsad (DKS) on Jan 19 and 20.
Briefing the media, DKS Vice President Sujoy Ghosh said that alongside host nation India, the international field includes players from Great Britain, Egypt, Denmark, South Korea, Japan, South Africa, the United States, China, Thailand, Austria, Canada, Indonesia, Taipei, Uzbekistan, Russia, and Latvia.
Ghosh noted that the main draw will feature four Indian players in the boys’ section and eight in the girls’ section. In addition, four boys and four girls have secured direct entry into the main draw through wild cards.
The championship is open to boys and girls born between Jan 1, 2008 and Dec 31, 2013.
Returning to DKS after a gap of five years, the tournament carries significant international ranking value. The singles champions and runners-up will earn 200 and 140 ranking points respectively, while the doubles winners and runners-up will receive 150 and 105 points in both boys’ and girls’ categories.
