Chennai/IBNS: A captain's knock by Joe Root has placed England into a strong position in the first innings of the inaugural Test match against India at MA Chidambaram Stadium here on Saturday.

Root, as per last update, is roaring towards his double century as England has crossed the 400-mark losing only four wickets.

Earlier Ben Stokes was dismissed for 82.

Ollie Pope is now at the crease with Root.

Jasprit Bumrah has so far clinched two wickets while the rest two have picked one each.
