Ranchi, May 18 (IBNS): Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Sunday.

Restricting CSK to 138 for four, RCB reached 142 for five with one ball to spare.

The match assumed significance as it was a battle between the current captain and vice-captain of the India side.

Chris Gayle looked brilliant in his  50-ball 46, which included three boundaries and three sixes, to give the side a good start at the top of the innings.

Virat Kohli (27) and AB de Villiers (28) made good contributions with their willows to help the side reach the target quite easily at the end.

CSK spinner R Ashwin and the side's newly included David Hussey took two wickets each.

Earlier riding on Suresh Raina's 62, CSK posted 138 for four on the scorecard.
