Chennai, Apr 11 (IBNS): Riding on a blistering 100 by Brendon McCullum, Chennai Super Kings commenced their Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign on winning note the two-time champions defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 45 runs here on Saturday.

Posting 209 runs for the loss of four wickets, CSK bowlers then restricted the opposition team at 164 runs for the loss of six wickets.

David Warer remained the top scorer for the Hyderabad side with his 53 runs. He it three sixes and a boundary in his knock.

Shikhar Dhawan (26), Ravi Bopara (22) and Kane Williamson  (26) failed to convert the start they got in the match.

Mohit Sharma and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets each for CSK.

Earlier, McCullum hammered 56-ball 100 to guide Chennai Super Kings to 209 runs for the loss of four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

In his heroic knock, McCullum butchered the opponents bowling by hammering seven boundaries and nine sixes.

McCullum is known for playing hurricane innings in IPL and it was IPL opener in 2008 where he had set the tone for the tournament with his unbeaten 158 runs for KKR against RCB.

MS Dhoni also played a quick-fire knock of 29-ball 53 where he smashed four boundaries and same number of sixes.

With three run outs, it was only Trent Boult, who picked up a single wicket for Sunrisers.

He took the wicket of Dhoni.
