IPL: BCCI names Vizag as neutral venue for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants

Mumbai, Apr 29 (IBNS): The Indian Premier League Governing Council on Friday announced that Vizag will be the neutral venue for Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants home matches post May 1 for the 2016 VIVO IPL season.

"The IPL GC extended gratitude towards the Government of Rajasthan and thanked the Rajasthan Sports Minister Mr. Gajendra Singh Khimsar for the efforts to get the Sawai Mansingh Cricket Stadium ready for hosting the matches. However, due to paucity of time and uncertainty surrounding whether the matches will be held or not, the IPL GC decided that Vizag will be neutral venue for both Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants," the BCCI said in a statement.

Both the IPL franchises have expressed satisfaction and are keen to embrace Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium as their home ground for the upcoming matches.

The above-mentioned changes have resulted in change of timing for two games on May 15.

The BCCI said the Kings XI Punjab and Sunrisers Hyderabad match at Mohali will be played at 4 PM IST and the Mumbai Indians - Delhi Daredevil clash will be played in Vizag at 8 PM IST.

The venue of IPL matches were changed after the Supreme Court of India sided with Bombay High Court on Wednesday and upheld the latter's verdict that no cricket matches of the cash-rich tournament can be held in May in drought-hit Maharashtra.

Supreme Court dismissed Mumbai Cricket Association's plea against shifting IPL out of Maharashtra.

On Apr 22, Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and Maharashtra Cricket Association had jointly filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court to allow Indian Premier League (IPL)  matches to be held according to the original schedule in Maharashtra.

With Maharashtra hit by severe drought, the Bombay High Court had directed to shift 13 IPL matches, scheduled to be held in the state after Apr 30, outside the state.
