Indian bowlers shine as England struggle at 53/3 at stumps

Chennai: India are seven wickets away from winning the second Test match against England as the hosts reduced the visitors to 53 runs for the loss of five wickets at the end of the third day's play of the second Test here on Monday.

Joe Root (2*) and Dan Lawrence (19*) will resume the proceedings for England on Tuesday.

Axar Patel scalped two British wickets while R AShwin picked up one to leave England struggling to save the match.

Ashwin, who scored his fifth international test century in the match, picked up the wicket of Rory Burns (25) before he could turn dangerous.

Dom Sibley (3) and Jack Leach (0) perished before making any impact. Patel picked up the wickets of both the batsmen.

All-rounder R Ashwin showed his skills with the willow on Monday when he scored a heroic 106 runs that helped India reach a comfortable position in the second Test against England here.

England now need 482 runs to win the second match of the series.

Ashwin hammered 14 boundaries and a six in his charismatic knock.

Skipper Virat Kohli added 62 runs.

India took a massive lead of 482 runs after being bowled out for 286 in the second innings.

R Ashwin is playing a memorable match as he picked up five opponents wickets in the first innings.

England is currently leading the series 1-0.
