India score a dozen past Afghanistan to cruise into semis

| | Nov 17, 2014, at 09:03 pm
New Delhi, Nov 17 (IBNS): There is no stopping the India Women’s Senior National Team juggernaut at the 3rd SAFF Women’s Championship.

As if recording mammoth wins against Maldives and Bangladesh were not enough, the women in blue made Afghanistan look like they were playing a different sport, crushing their opponents with a ruthless 12-0 win in their last Group A engagement in Islamabad, Pakistan on Monday (November 17, 2014).

Striker Bala Devi extended her purple patch scoring another five goals for her country, (4’, 12’, 33’, 38’ 83’) while attackers Prameshwori (28’, 47’, 68’)and Indumathi Devi (3’, 6’, 51’) notched up hattricks either side of halftime. Mandakini Devi joined the party late with a strike in the 88th minute to complete the rout.

India led 8-0 at the interval.

Bala Devi has now scored 11 goals in three matches while India have found the back of the net 25 times letting in just once in the last match against Bangladesh. Needless to say, India are in the semifinals without a glimmer of a hitch and will take on Sri Lanka on Wednesday (November 19).
