India finishes 4th at Commonwealth Games 2026 with 39 medals despite missing medal-rich sports
Glasgow/IBNS: India signed off its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a fourth-place finish in the overall medal standings, collecting 39 medals, including 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze.
Despite the absence of several of its traditional medal-winning sports, India matched its fourth-place finish from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The Indian contingent delivered a commendable performance across multiple disciplines despite competing in a significantly reduced sporting programme.
Boxing leads India's campaign
Boxing emerged as India's most successful discipline, contributing 10 medals, including an impressive seven gold medals.
The sport played a pivotal role in helping India maintain its position among the top four nations on the medals table.
Missing sports impacted medal haul
India's overall tally was affected by the exclusion of several sports in which the country has traditionally excelled.
Sports such as wrestling, badminton, hockey, shooting and cricket were not part of the Glasgow 2026 programme, significantly reducing India's medal opportunities compared to previous editions.
Matching the Birmingham performance
Although India's overall medal count was lower than in recent editions, the contingent succeeded in retaining its fourth-place finish from the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The result underlined India's ability to remain among the leading sporting nations in the Commonwealth despite a trimmed competition schedule and the absence of several medal-rich events.
Top three nations
Australia finished at the top of the medals table with 171 medals, reaffirming its dominance at the Commonwealth Games with a commanding haul of gold medals across swimming, athletics, cycling and several other disciplines.
England secured second place after another strong all-round campaign with 110 medals, delivering consistent performances across a wide range of sports to stay comfortably ahead of the chasing pack.
Canada claimed third place with strong performances across swimming, athletics, cycling and other disciplines, finishing ahead of India. The country won 62 medals.
