Mumbai, Mar 16 (IBNS): Riding on Chris Gayle's heroic 48-ball 100 runs unbeaten knock, West Indies cruised to six wickets victory over England in an ICC World T20 match here on Wednesday.

Chasing England's competitive 182 for two,West Indies reached 183 runs by losing four wickets with 11 balls to spare.

In his chivalrous knock, Gayle butchered the English bowlers as he hammered 11 sixes and five boundaries as he set the mood of the tournament to an electrifying path.

He got an able support from Marlon Samuels (37) as both added 55 runs in the second wicket partnership. He also joined Denesh Ramdin (12) to a 46 runs third wicket stand.

Andre Russell contributed 16 no runs in the end as West Indies commenced their fight to win the tournament for the second time with a victory.

English bowlers failed to deliver and Gayle used his willow strong against the attack which looked helpless in front of the West Indian big hitter.

David Willey, Reece Topley, Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali picked up a wicket each for England.

Earlier, England posted 182 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Joe Root remained the top scorer for the former ICC World T20 winning side with his 36-ball 48. He hit three boundaries and two sixes in his knock.

Russell and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets for West Indies.
