History created: Ramita Jindal reaches medal round of women's Air Rifle event

Indian shooter Ramita Jindal cruised to the medal round of the Women's 10m Air Rifle event of the Paris Olympics on Sunday.

She triggered medal hope after finishing fifth in the qualifying round by scoring 631.5.

Jindal created history after she became the second female shooter in 20 years after  Manu Bhaker to reach the medal stage of the grand sports event.

Despite her qualification, India received a jolt when Jindal's compatriot Elavenil Valarivan missed out on a chance to reach the next round.

During the 2004 Athens Olympics, Jindal's coach Suma Shirur had made it to the final cut.

Elavenil Valarivan's hopes were dashed after she scored 630.7 points.

Placed at the 10th position in the list, the Indian shooter missed the coveted top-eight finish.
