Gurkirat Singh does an encore and wins the Tata Steel Royal Juniors Cup

Kolkata, Sept 4 (IBNS): Gurkirat Singh finished the job in clinical fashion as he clinched his second victory at the Par-72 Royal Calcutta Golf Club in the Tata Steel Royal Juniors Cup 2014 here on Thursday.
Gurkirat, who started the day with a lead of two strokes, shot a six-over par 78 for a gross of nine-over par 153 to emerge victorious at the final leg of the Tata Steel East Zone Sub Junior & Feeder Tour 2014.

Udayjit Bhalotia finished in second place four strokes behind at thirteen-over par 157 followed by Category B winner Hassan Rahman Khandokar, who also brought in the best card of four-over par 76 for the day, a further stroke behind.

Losing out on the Category B via a playoff, Bibek Sardar was tied third with Sharif Khan and Yashvardhan Sarda completing the top 5 at seventeen-over 161.

Local lad Gurkirat began steadily with two straight pars before dropping three consecutive strokes to go three-over for the day and six-over for the week.

Another dropped stroke on the par 4 7th hole had him save pars on the next two holes to limit the damage and go out four over for the day. With no one really threatening him, he opted to go for pars rather than birdies and hit six on the go from the 10th to the 15th holes to make sure he had his hands firmly placed on the Cup.

He finished bogey-par-bogey to seal yet another title at the famous RCGC.

Rajib Ali secured the Category C title by shooting a nine-over 81 to follow up on his overnight 80 for a gross of seventeen-over 161.

Three strokes behind was Sandeep Kumar Yadav to be placed second followed by Tapas Sardar sixteen strokes behind in third place at 180. Joysurjo Dey dominated category D as he won by ten strokes ahead of Biren Kumar in second place and Aryaman Chakravarty in third a further three strokes behind.

It was pretty straightforward in the Girls Categories as Adreeja Ghosh shot an identical 105 on both days to win the Category A title. Chitrangada Singh who shot an impressive nine-over 81 including a birdie on the 3rd hole won category C. Similarly, overnight leader Aahana Kapoor improved two strokes on her overnight score to win the Category D event.
