Kolkata/IBNS: Former Indian cricketer and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor Gautam Gambhir remained silent about the possibility of becoming the next head coach of the Indian national cricket team.

"I don’t see that far ahead. You are grilling me, asking me all tough questions," Gambhir said in Kolkata on Wednesday (June 21) when asked to comment on his potential appointment as team India's next head coach.

The former cricketer was attending a talk show, "Rise to leadership with Gautam Gambhir", organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in the city.

"It’s difficult to answer right now. All I can say is that I’m happy being here, just finished a brilliant journey, and let’s enjoy that. I’m in a very happy space right now," Gambhir said at the event.

Following a successful session as KKR mentor, the 42-year-old former opener reportedly participated in a virtual interview with the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee, which fueled speculation that he might succeed India's current head coach Rahul Dravid, under whose captaincy Gambhir began his ODI career, after the ongoing T20 World Cup.
