Gambhir returns to Indian side

Mumbai, May 28 (IBNS) Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday got a recall to the Indian side that was selected for the upcoming tour to England.

The left handed opener returned to the side for the first time since playing the last Test for the national side in December  2012.

The first Test match of the five-match series will start on July 9.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee met in Mumbai Wednesday to pick the Indian teams for the tours of Bangladesh and England.

Selectors have picked up two other openers-Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan- apart from Gambhir in the side.

Gambhir, under whose leadership Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reached the final of the IPL, returned to form in the cash-rich tournament.

Senior Indian pacer Zaheer Khan however was not selected for the England tour. He even had to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) midway due to hamstring injury.

Seamers Pankaj Singh, Ishwar Pandey and Stuart Binny were named in the squad.

Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will lead the pace department for India.

MS Dhoni will lead the side.

In the limited Bangladesh tour, Suresh Raina has been named the captain as both Dhoni and Virat Kohli were rested for the tour to the neighbouring nation.

Robin Uthappa and Wriddhiman Saha got a recall to the side for the tour to Bangladesh following their good performance in the IPL.
