Fourth Test: Indian batsmen put team firmly on top

New Delhi, Dec 5 (IBNS) Virat Kohli and his men weathered early blows to surface on top at stumps on day three of the fourth Test match, against South Africa, here on Saturday.

At stumps, India have scored 190 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and now lead by 403 runs.

The Indian team lost early wickets in the morning session as Morne Morkel bounced out Murali Vijay, who was a tad unlucky to be adjudged out and then pegged back Rohit Sharma's off-stump to prolong his woeful run in Test matches.

With two men back for just 8 runs on board, Shikhar Dhawan and Cheteshwar Pujara played with caution to take their team's score to 51 before the session ended.

Post lunch, Morkel removed the southpaw with a toe-crushing yorker as Dhawan could only muster 21 runs on his birthday.

Cheteshwar Pujara (28) fell victim to Imran Tahir and saw his stumps pegged back, getting bowled for the 3 consecutive time in the series.

Tahir almost had Kohli, but a referral saw the umpire turn down the decision as Tahir was found guilty of overstepping the bowling crease.

Since then the duo of Kohli and Rahane played an assured knock and stitched together a 143-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Kohli, who is unbeaten at 83 runs, hit 10 boundaries in his 154 balls knock.

Rahane played 2 balls less than his partner for 52 runs.
